The Mindfulness of Jason Bourne

I’m an avid reader of The Art of Manliness. One of their recent blogs spoke of mindfulness, which is an important and crucial lesson in zen teaching. One of the most evident practical uses of mindfulness is situational awareness.

I’ve been employed in armed professions since I was 17 years old, so the lessons of situational awareness (although they weren’t taught from a zen perspective) are ingrained into the very fabric of my being. It’s not that way for many people.

How many of you wish you were more mindful of the world around you?

How many of you watched the Jason Bourne movies and wished you could develop that superpower of his?

Like many things, with the right training and effort you can. Go ahead and read this blog from AoM and it’ll get you started down the road to mindfulness through the eye of situational awareness. Just be careful though. Like many roads toward a good thing, the path is often crossed by dangerous or distractful things. In this case, don’t go too far down the path because the dark side of mindfulness is paranoia.
